Christmas 2007 – the Capitol Christmas Tree Project at the Bennington Museum
“Christmas, 2007…the Capitol Christmas Tree Project was an unexpected adventure in community service. Far more than just delivering a tree to Washington, it involved tremendous volunteer effort over an entire year. It was an emotional trip that involved hard work, late nights, deep seated emotion, heartache, and joy. It was Vermont at its finest,” states photographer Lee Krohn. The photographs taken by Krohn, the official photographer for this unusual adventure, will be on display in the Regional Artist Gallery at the Bennington Museum from November 28 through December 31. This exhibit brings to life a taste of that experience.
The photographs in Krohn’s exhibit help to capture the dedication and hard work in true Vermont community tradition. From the school children who made ornaments and cards for the tree and the veterans visited on the way to D.C. to the owners and drivers of the Mack Trucks who added so much to the adventure. From the Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Forest Service members to Smokey the Bear and all the sponsors and hosts along the way. This exhibit captures the moments and tells the tale in great depth.
Krohn has served the Town of Manchester in many roles over the past 20 years, including Planning Director, Zoning Administrator, Tree Warden, E-911 Coordinator, and Interim Town Manager. In his private life, Lee is an award-winning professional photographer who thrives on capturing life "live", and showing people new perspectives on the world around them. At weddings, sports, or other special events, Krohn is the consummate "stealth photographer" -- never seen but always there for those moments of magic. He has taught workshops for children, adults, and nonprofits, and is a regular contributor to the local newspapers as well as Vermont Magazine, and Vermont Sports Magazine. He donates his talents to a number of nonprofit events and organizations, including the Komen Race for the Cure, Climb for Lyme, Manchester Chamber of Commerce, Riley Rink, and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Krohn and his family live in Manchester.
The Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main Street (Route 9), Bennington in The Shires of Vermont.
